New (holistic) dentist wants to charge me a $150 "ozone" fee for a single filling replacement
Main Post:
This week I went to see a new dentist, after losing confidence in my prior dentist due to their policy of fear-mongering about mercury, as well as some other questionable practices.
I decided to try this new dentist based on overwhelmingly positive Yelp reviews. Once in the office I noticed a couple of books in the waiting area with titles including words like TOXICITY. This was concerning to me but I also started to doubt what I thought I already knew, which was that amalgam is safe.
After the exam they set me up an appt to have one of my last remaining amalgam fillings removed and replaced due to a cavity. (Previous dentist had replaced several with composite.) They went over a schedule of fees for this procedure and it included a $150 fee for "ozone extraction" or something along those lines. A rubber dam was mentioned but the explanation was not very clear or informative.
Based on what I've read both in this sub and elsewhere, the above seems to be a load of BS. I started looking at the dentist's website and it turns out that she's openly anti-amalgam (I should have done my homework.) Here's a page from her website:
http://www.drnicolevane.com/san-diego-mercury-filling-removal.html
So here's my question: Is there even a shred of truth in the above URL? Most of what she's saying seems to be contradicted by, for example:

Follow up question: If, as I suspect, this is just a bunch of anti-vaxxer/anti-flouride type BS, how are dentists like this not shut down for malpractice?

Run. Just fucking run away from that shit, both your old and new dentist.
Holistic Dentistry?
Main Post:
I was looking around for a new dentist, and one of them listed "Holistic Dentistry" as one of their specialties. Does anyone know anything about that? Should that be a concern to a woo-shunning skeptic such as myself? Are they going to tell me to do some sort of voodoo cleanse on my colon to purge "toxins" in order to help my gums stay healthy?

Becoming a Holistic Dentist?
Main Post:
If I was interested in becoming a holistic dentist, what class rank should I be shooting for, lowest 10%?
But seriously, how in the hell does someone end up in that position? Does anyone know someone from dental school who eventually ended up being a quack? Some of the stuff these people post on social media is absolutely insane.

You got to admit though, tooth meridianology actually does make a lot of sense. When I had my wisdom teeth removed for holistic reasons, my family problems stopped, I no longer resented my cat, and I stopped rejecting the deep state theories. You should really do more research before you start going around and making accusations about dentists acting like ducks, not every duck makes a quack noise my friend.

Can anyone for the US enlighten me how these sorts of dentists still have their licence?

I thought that US dentistry is at the highest possible level in the world, and still someone like this can still practice, and not have their license revoked? Using bogus studies to back up their iatrogenic treatment plans and preying on uneducated people.

I’ve seen a few “holistic dentistry” offices starting to pop up in my city.

Top Comment: Interviewed at a holistic practice. No amalgam ever. SMART removal of existing amalgam with an upcharge. Every amalgam was TP for removal btw. Everything is "biocompatible." IE ceramic implants vs titanium. Lots and lots of buzzwords. FFS for payment. There is no extra training. All of the "literature" was from quack ass sources. It pandered to the types of people who are traditionally very skeptical of western medicine. Everything was FFS with, what I considered, wild up charges. Such as the SMART removal of amalgam.
Is biological (holistic) dentistry junk science?
Main Post:
I went to see my dentist for discomfort when chewing. The spot was a root canal with a crown. He injected ozone treatment and gave me a treatment plan to extract the root canal and get an implant. X-rays did not show any decay but he doesn’t believe people should have root canals. The treatment was worse than the problem as my face is all swollen and painful after that shot. I started researching his methods and now I am thinking he may be guided by junk science.

I... personally have problems with holistic dentists. I personally feel that they exist by feeding on the fears of people and perpetuating the idea of 'natural'. I understand the clientele which typically go to them and they would never accept the practices in my office. There is a difference of opinion. I've had patients who insist I remove all the amalgam fillings from their mouth because it 'gave them MS" or "will give them cancer". These types of people are no longer patients in my practice.
That being said, root canals are a valid form of dental treatment, and while they may fail and require either a retreatment or an extraction, they are not inherently 'harmful' as many people tend to believe.
I know several holistic dentists, some who just don't use amalgam, to those who believe in extracting all root canaled teeth and replacing them with zirconia implants (because titanium is bad, too). They put on hazmat suits to remove amalgams (again, perpetuating the fear).
I highly recommend you find a second opinion from another dentist.

Has anyone seen the movie “Tooth” if so does anyone know of a dentist that prescribes to these theories? The theory being that during the root canal most times there is left behind dying tissue that is trapped beneath the cement used to fill the hole and create the post the the fake tooth is then cemented to. This dying and eventually dead trapped tissue turns into different poisons. Botulism being one of them. This in turn interrupts the lines of energy flowing through our bodies ( see acupuncture) The remedy for this is to remove the roots entirely and inject ozone at each location to neutralize the poisins. If anyone knows of a dentist in or near Bellingham that buys into this please reply with that dentist’s name. Thanks

Typically dentists here like to follow science, that’s been my experience so far.
Found a holistic dentist that I feel like might know what they’re doing but are too expensive!

I’ve had problems with my teeth keep hurting me after a filling, and I also have three amalgam fillings that I want to remove. I removed one at one of the top dental clinic and it still hurt! I’ve visited a couple of dentists afterwards and they keep saying it is ok. I have no cavities and good dental hygiene and they say I just have sensitive teeth.
Today I’ve visited a holistic dentist after searching and I liked her approach but she is very expensive and my insurance doesn’t cover her clinic. She addressed all of my dental complaints and had explanations for all of them. What do you all think?

You should listen to Andrew Huberman’s latest podcast all on dental/oral care - might be some helpful info!
